Enalees strengthens its bovine vector-borne disease diagnostics offering with a panel incorporating two major new pathogens

A rapid molecular diagnostic tool to refine the identification of complex bovine infections.

Enalees announces the launch of the new version of its Rhéa® Vector-Borne Diseases Complete panel (ref. RT-PABLM), now enhanced with the detection of Leptospira spp. and haemotropic mycoplasmas (Mycoplasma wenyonii and Candidatus Mycoplasma haemobos).

These pathogens, of major importance in cattle farming, are often involved in subclinical or chronic infections that are difficult to diagnose without specific tools. Their presence can lead to reproductive disorders, reduced production or anaemic syndromes, with significant economic consequences for farmers.

Pathogens that are difficult to detect in multifactorial clinical presentations

Bovine vector-borne infections are frequently characterised by non-specific signs and co-infections, making aetiological diagnosis complex.

Agents such as Leptospira spp. or haemotropic mycoplasmas may in particular be:

  • difficult to detect with conventional methods,
  • impossible to culture in certain cases,
  • responsible for persistent infections within the herd.

Without an accurate diagnosis, there is a risk of introducing inappropriate treatments, which may delay management and promote antimicrobial resistance.

An enhanced panel for rapid, targeted diagnosis in the clinic

With this new version, the Rhéa® Vector-Borne Diseases panel now enables the simultaneous detection of 7 major pathogens involved in bovine vector-borne infections: Leptospira spp., Mycoplasma wenyonii, Candidatus Mycoplasma haemobos, Anaplasma spp., Theileria spp., Babesia spp. and Borrelia spp.

Based on LAMP molecular technology, this test delivers a reliable result in under 40 minutes directly in the clinic, enabling veterinarians to quickly guide their diagnosis and therapeutic strategy.

A key tool for more accurate and responsible veterinary medicine

This panel provides veterinarians with a practical solution to:

  • refine the diagnosis of complex syndromes
  • rapidly adapt treatments, particularly in view of the specific features of mycoplasmas
  • limit inappropriate antibiotic use
  • improve overall herd health management

« Bovine vector-borne infections are often under-diagnosed due to their complexity and the diversity of the agents involved. By integrating Leptospira spp. and haemotropic mycoplasmas into our panel, we are providing veterinarians with a rapid and comprehensive diagnostic tool, directly usable in the clinic, for more accurate and more effective management of animals. »

About Enalees
Enalees develops, manufactures and markets rapid isothermal PCR tests that enable veterinarians to make a diagnosis when an infectious disease is suspected, in the clinic or directly in the field, without sending the sample to a specialised laboratory. Its team, mainly made up of PhDs, veterinarians, or biology engineers and technicians, contributes to the development of innovative tests for companion and livestock animals.
The tests use LAMP technology. It enables isothermal amplification of the pathogen’s DNA sequence and offers four advantages: specificity and sensitivity equivalent to PCR, while combining rapid results (30 minutes) and robustness.
Enalees offers more than 70 tests across three ranges: Epona® (horses), Astéria® (dogs/cats) and Rhéa® (ruminants). These ranges enable the detection of more than 25 infectious diseases (respiratory diseases, vector-borne diseases, GI, anaemia, coronavirus, mastitis).
Enalees’ facilities (R&D and production) have been located in the Genopole biocluster in Essonne since 2016. Enalees has a production capacity of one million tubes per year, both for its animal health business and for partners for whom it develops and manufactures custom tests.
Enalees now has more than 45 employees in France and internationally, with subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada.
