Enalees strengthens its feline respiratory diagnostics offer with a panel incorporating Mycoplasma felis

Enalees, the Genopole-based leader in rapid molecular diagnostics for animal health, is expanding its Asteria® range with its new Asteria® Feline Respiratory Panel test including 4 major pathogens (Herpes Virus, Calicivirus, Chlamydia felis and Mycoplasma felis). Designed for direct clinical use, this new test enables veterinary professionals to refine their diagnosis of upper respiratory infections in cats in less than 40 minutes, thanks to LAMP molecular technology. This innovative solution makes it possible to optimise the management of feline infections right from the first consultation.

Extended diagnosis to meet clinical needs

Feline respiratory infections often originate from several distinct pathogens or co-infections. This is why a broad diagnostic approach is essential. With the Asteria® Feline Respiratory Panel, Enalees offers veterinary professionals a complementary alternative to its Asteria® Coryza Panel, enabling an approach tailored to the specific needs of each clinical situation. The inclusion of M. felis in addition to the pathogens Herpes (FHV), Calicivirus (FCV) and Chlamydia felis reinforces the accuracy of the diagnosis of respiratory diseases in cats.

Why include Mycoplasma felis in the Asteria® Coryza panel?

During a consultation for a cat with suggestive clinical signs (conjunctivitis, rhino-sinusitis, or coryza syndrome), the addition of Mycoplasma felis to the diagnosis enables more precise identification of the pathogen responsible. This allows the veterinary professional to administer a more appropriate treatment to help the patient recover more rapidly.

  • A more refined diagnosis: when the pathogens responsible for coryza prove negative in LAMP, Mycoplasma felis may be the cause of the symptoms.
A word of caution: a low carriage rate in cats must be taken into account in oro-pharyngeal swabs taken in the community for asymptomatic cases.
  • Optimised therapeutic management: as M. felis is resistant to beta-lactam antibiotics, its identification means that treatment can be adapted immediately.
  • Saves time for the veterinary professional and improves patient follow-up: accurate diagnosis right from the first consultation.

Rapid, accessible technology

Based on LAMP technology, the Asteria® Feline Respiratory Panel test retains the advantages that have made Enalees tests so successful:

  • Diagnosis in less than 40 minutes directly in the clinic.
  • High sensitivity and specificity, comparable to PCR.
  • Simple sampling using nasal, oropharyngeal or ocular swabs.
  • Easier decision-making for personalised, rationalised treatment.

Thanks to LAMP technology, this solution is a rapid, cost-effective alternative to PCR.

An essential tool for managing feline infections

With this new Asteria® Feline Respiratory Panel diagnostic tool, Enalees is helping veterinary professionals to manage respiratory infections more effectively, enabling them to adapt their therapeutic approach precisely.

By adding Mycoplasma felis to our range, we are giving veterinary professionals the means to make a more complete and rapid diagnosis of feline respiratory infections. This new reference is part of our commitment to supporting professionals with ever more innovative and accessible solutions for animal welfare.

About Enalees

Enalees designs, develops and produces rapid diagnostic tests using isothermal PCR that enable veterinary professionals to diagnose suspected infectious diseases in clinics or directly in the field (point-of-care). This isothermal amplification retains the benefits of PCR (specificity and sensitivity) while combining rapid results (30 minutes) and robustness.
Enalees offers two ranges, Epona® and Astéria®, for diagnosing infectious diseases in horses and dogs/cats. More than 20 diseases, including strangles, influenza and leptospirosis, can be detected early. In France, 90% of equine veterinary professional clinics are equipped with these solutions.
All the tests are available for sale via the Enalees Group (France, UK and Germany) and a network of distributors. Since its creation, Enalees has developed its expertise in LAMP and freeze-dry manufacturing. Thanks to investments, Enalees has been able to increase its production capacity to over one million tests per year, including products for its own animal health business as well as contract testing for its partners.

Enalees now employs 44 people.
